Is it safe to use open Wi-fi? It depends. Need the 10-day weather forecast? Great. Reading the news? Totally fine. Logging into your online bank account or shopping online? Not the best idea. Why? Hackers use open Wi-fi to intercept login information, steal data, and install viruses. Before you use a public Wi-Fi network, take a moment to consider what you’re doing online. If you need to share confidential information outside of a secure, trusted Wi-Fi network, consider using your phone’s data plan instead.

#Myth: Public Wi-Fi is safe if you don't share sensitive information.#Fact: Public Wi-Fi is often unsecured, leaving all data at risk. While many believe avoiding sensitive tasks on public Wi-Fi keeps them safe, hackers can intercept unencrypted data like browsing history and login details. Protect yourself with a VPN, or avoid sensitive tasks on public Wi-Fi altogether.
