Jacksonville Jaguars preaching short memory after cruising past 'soft' Patriots in London
Demetrius Harvey
New England Patriotshead coach Jerod Mayo uttered forbidden words after the team's loss to theJacksonville Jaguarson Sunday in London.
"We're a soft football team across the board. Talk about what makes a tough football team, that's being able to run the ball, being able to stop the run and that's being able to cover kicks and we did none of those," Mayo said to open his postgame press conference viaESPN'sMike Reiss.
The feeling New England (1-6) felt Sunday is reminiscent ofhow the Jaguars (2-5) felt last weekagainst the Chicago Bears in the team's Week 6 loss. Now, it's theJaguars in the win column.

Jaguars grades: Check out Gene Frenette's report card for Sunday's London game vs. Patriots
Clayton Freeman
Times-Union sports columnist Gene Frenette gradesthe Jaguars’ performance in a 32-16 victoryover the New England Patriots at Wembley Stadium in London based on effort, execution and game circumstances.
Offense: It took longer than theJaguarswanted to show any kind of a spark, but Trevor Lawrence (15 of 20, 193 yards, 1 TD, 121.5 rating) and the offense flipped the game Jacksonville’s way on back-to-back touchdown drives in the second quarter. No play was more impressive than Lawrence’s perfectly-thrown deep bomb of 58 yards to Brian Thomas Jr., who caught the ball down the middle of the field with cornerback Christian Gonzalez draped all over him. See the full report card here.

Touchdown Jaguars: Tank Bigsby powers into end zone for insurance score
Clayton Freeman
It's been a great ballgame for Tank Bigsby. Starting with a short field, the running back stormed into the end zone after three rushes for a two-score lead. He is up to 118 yards.
Jaguars 32, Patriots 16, 1:41 4th.

Travon Walker sacks Drake Maye on third down, Jaguars near victory
Clayton Freeman
That should do it. Drake Maye picked up a few yards to begin the drive, but offensive holding backed up New England and then Travon Walker downed Maye on third down. The fourth down attempt sailed incomplete, and Trevor Lawrence can now take a knee.
12:05 pm ET October 20, 2024
After 16 consecutive rushes, Jaguars punt
Clayton Freeman
It's been a rush-fest for the Jaguars, and Tank Bigsby is now over 100 yards. Following 16 straight runs, Trevor Lawrence threw incomplete on third down and Logan Cooke punted the football back to the Patriots. But New England will need two scores. Jaguars 25, Patriots 16, 3:58 4th.

Touchdown Patriots: Drake Maye leads 94-yard march, ends wih KJ Osborn TD
Clayton Freeman
This game is not over. Drake Maye looked nearly flawless on that drive, including deep passes to Hunter Henry and Kayshon Boutte for gains of 30-plus. He then found KJ Osborn for a touchdown, wide open in the heart of the defense, one play after a near-pick by Andre Cisco. New England went for two but couldn't convert after a receiver slipped. Still a two-score game, but New England is building some momentum.
Jaguars 25, Patriots 16, 8:22 4th.

Patriots stuff Tank Bigsby on fourth down after 17-play Jaguars drive
Clayton Freeman
Fourth-down woes continue for the Jaguars. A 17-play drive ends with zero points after New England stuffs Tank Bigsby on third-and-1 and fourth-and-1. Still, that possession consumed more than 10 minutes. Bigsby is up to 98 yards on the ground. Jaguars 25, Patriots 10, 11:10 4th.
11:35 am ET October 20, 2024
END OF THIRD QUARTER: Jaguars 25, Patriots 10
Clayton Freeman
The Jaguars are munching the clock. Tank Bigsby is hitting the line again and again, nearly up to 100 yards, and Jacksonville's drive has consumed nearly half the third quarter. They're in business again as the fourth quarter opens.

Field goal Jaguars: Cam Little adds to Jacksonville lead
Clayton Freeman
Cam Little adds points to the scoreboard after another solid Jaguars drive, including a fine catch-and-run by D'Ernest Johnson. Trevor Lawrence nearly connected with Christian Kirk for a touchdown, but the receiver couldn't quite get his second foot down in bounds.

Touchdown Jaguars: Parker Washington returns punt for 97-yard TD
Clayton Freeman
Wow: One play after Andre Cisco blew up a Patriots third-down try, the Pats punted and Parker Washington made them pay. That's 97 yards to the house, the longest punt return in Jags history (Keelan Cole held the old record, 91). It's tied for the ninth-longest in NFL history, per the Pro Football Reference archive.
Trevor Lawrence connected with Brian Thomas Jr. for two.

Clayton Freeman
Now there's a highlight fans will be seeing over and over again. Rookie Brian Thomas goes loooooooooooong and Trevor Lawrence finds him in stride for a gain of 58 yards. A perfect connection for the highlight reel.
From there, the Jags continued their march and Tank Bigsby plowed into the end zone from 1. The Jags are now in the lead, and Lawrence is 8 of 9 for 125 yards.
Jaguars 14, Patriots 10, 3:32 2nd.

Injury watch: Jaguars LT Cam Robinson ruled out with concussion
Clayton Freeman
More bad news for the Jaguars: Offensive tackle Cam Robinson has been ruled out for the game with a concussion.
It's not immediately clear when the concussion occurred.
Walker Little is taking Robinson's place at left tackle for now, as Trevor Lawrence begins his third drive following a Patriot punt. Patriots 10, Jaguars 7, 7:09 2nd.
10:24 am ET October 20, 2024
Touchdown Jaguars: Trevor Lawrence, Brian Thomas Jr. connect on TD
Clayton Freeman
Finally, some hope. The Jaguars are on the board. Trevor Lawrence led a crisp eight-play, 68-yard drive, including one of his best throws of the season with a strike to Christian Kirk over the middle. Tank Bigsby also rushed for a gain of 13 to the New England 7. On third down inside the 10, Lawrence connected with Brian Thomas Jr. and the rookie finished in the end zone for a 6-yard score. A good bounce-back drive for the Jags.
Patriots 10, Jaguars 7, 9:21 2nd.

Jacksonville Jaguars keep getting haunted by former players as JaMycal Hasty strikes early

If there's anything tougher than theJacksonville Jaguars'losing ways this season, it's the fact that players they cast off havecome back to bite them.
Sunday's first drive of the gameagainst the New England Patriotsat Wembley Stadium in London was another example.JaMycal Hasty,a versatile running back who had some electrifying moments for theJaguarsin 2022, came off the bench for thePatriotsto score on a 16-yard screen pass from Drake Maye, giving his team a 7-0 lead and marking the first time this season that New England had scored a touchdown on their first drive.

Field goal Patriots: After multiple offsides, Jags limit New England to three
Clayton Freeman
Joey Slye, briefly with the Jaguars during the offseason, nails a 41-yard field goal to extend New England's lead. That drive could have ended in the end zone, but Drake Maye threw just a bit behind receiver Kendrick Bourne on third down. Otherwise, Maye has been solid (9 of 12, 90 yards).
Patriots 10, Jaguars 0, 13:31 2nd.

End of first quarter: Patriots 7, Jaguars 0
Clayton Freeman
The Jaguars' defense has given the London audience some lessons in how not to play football: Numerous missed tackles and three offside penalties already, two on Josh Hines-Allen, including consecutive offsides by Hines-Allen and Jordan Jefferson to end the quarter and give New England a first down. Rookie QB Drake Maye is 8 of 10 for 87 yards and a touchdown behind a battered offensive line.

Jaguars' first drive stalls at midfield: D'Ernest Johnson tackled on third down
Clayton Freeman
Not the ideal response from the Jaguars' offense, which is without the injured Travis Etienne. Despite a couple of nice connections from Trevor Lawrence to Evan Engram, the drive stalled out just beyond midfield. D'Ernest Johnson, starting at running back, was stopped at the line on third-and-long on a pass that was several yards deep in the backfield. That led to a punt. Patriots 7, Jaguars 0, 5:02 1st.

Touchdown Patriots: Former Jaguar JaMycal Hasty scores on opening drive
Clayton Freeman
The Patriots were one of two NFL teams without a score on their opening drive this year (along with Philadelphia). Well, that just changed. Drake Maye led a steady opening march, highlighted by a third-down conversion to former Mandarin High School state champion DeMario Douglas. From there, facing third and 10, Maye connected with former Jags running back JaMycal Hasty, who danced around Josh Hines-Allen and several other Jacksonville players on his way to a 16-yard score. Trevor Lawrence and the Jacksonville offense will have to play from behind, yet again.
Patriots 7, Jaguars 0, 8:32 1st.

Trevor Lawrence keeping 'joy of the game' in mind despite Jacksonville Jaguars' woes
Juston Lewis
Jacksonville JaguarsquarterbackTrevor Lawrenceknows the team can’t look at the road ahead, especially with a team in a similar boat as them looming.
“I've played long enough to know it doesn't really matter [who] you play. Every team in this league is a good team and can beat you,” he said from The Grove in London during his Wednesday press conference. "It doesn't matter what their record is, how well they've played in the past. It's any given Sunday. So, for us, it's taking it one week at a time.”
The Jaguars received aringing endorsement from owner Shad Khanlast weekend, then dropped the ball against the Bears in a literal sense.

Jacksonville Jaguars must beat Patriots or face harsh consequences | Gene Frenette
Gene Frenette
There is no sugarcoating the fact theJacksonville Jaguarsare standing on the edge of a cliff, teetering on animminent death march to the 2024 season.
At 1-5, with confidence and signs of legitimate fight in short supply, nothing short of a Lazarus-like rise from the ashes can salvage this debacle.
The situation is so alarming that almost everybody outside these core players —Trevor Lawrence, Travon Walker, Josh Hines-Allen, Anton Harrison, Maason Smith, Tyson Campbell, Travis Etienne, Tank Bigsby, Logan Cooke, Cam LittleandBrian Thomas Jr.—should now be wondering about their future in Jacksonville.

Can Jacksonville Jaguars turn their season around? More big questions before Patriots game
Demetrius Harvey
There have been twists and turns throughout the season in the NFL, but theJacksonville Jaguarshave never found a groove even after their Week 5 victory over the Indianapolis Colts.
Last week'sgame against the Chicago Bearsunderscored what's gone wrong in Jacksonville. The offense can't finish and the defense struggles to get off the field. When the going got tough, theJaguarsfolded, something both head coach Doug Pederson and quarterbackTrevor Lawrenceacknowledged immediatelyafter their 35-16 loss.

Jacksonville's trade trips to London gain traction amid Jaguars games
David Bauerlein
TheJaguarsdidn't come home with a win when they flew to London in October 2022, but off the field in Wembley Stadium that Sunday, a meeting between Jacksonville officials and top executives fromLondon-based Paysafefinalized a plan for the company to open its North American headquarters in Jacksonville.
The session in the stadium came after a year of meetings between Paysafe and Jacksonville chamber leaders, both in person and on Zoom calls, setting the stage for putting the final touches on the talks while the Jaguars and Denver Broncosclashed on the field.
Paysafe is the biggest success Jacksonville has scored since 2013 while using the Jaguars annual trip to London for football games as a way to crack into the growing trade lane between the United Kingdom and Florida. This year's Jaguars games in London will mark the 11th time in 12 years that a trade delegation has flown overseas, a string broken only by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

'Fragile' Jacksonville Jaguars must prove they aren't quitters vs. Patriots
Demetrius Harvey
TheJacksonville Jaguars(1-5) are described as "fragile" by quarterback Trevor Lawrence, in need of a culture change according to head coach Doug Pederson, and have displayed a sense of "quit," as noted by safety Andre Cisco.
Those statements are the most damning ones a franchise can have, especially just six weeks into the season.
Pederson put it plainly on Wednesday ahead of Sunday morning's game against the Patriots: "Look, we're 1-5. We are where we are. As they say, ‘If you make your bed, you’ve got to lie in it,'" he said.

Jacksonville Jaguarsrunning backTravis Etiennewill not suit up against thePatriotstoday. Head coach Doug Pederson tipped his handshortly before inactives were due 90 minutes before kickoff after the fourth-year suffered a hamstring injury during the team's Week 6 loss to the Chicago Bears.
"Travis had a really good week but, unfortunately, he's not gonna be able to make this game, we just want to make sure he's 100%," Pederson toldNFL Media'sSam Wyche in an interview before the game. "So Tank [Bigsby], D'Ernest [Johnson] and Jake Funk, off of our practice squad, gonna elevate him for this game. So, you got those three guys. Tank and D'Ernest have done a great job for us so far and we ride with those two guys.''

Jacksonville Jaguars players show off style with custom cleats on game day: 'Some swag'
Juston Lewis

Defensive backJarrian Jonessat at his locker after theJacksonville Jaguarswrapped up an early season practice.
“I have those,” Jones said, pointing toward a pair of Jordan 3 shoes in the Black Cement colorway.
He stood up from his locker and opened the underneath storage bin to reveal a treasure trove of cleats. As he ruffled through the nearly 20 pairs, he finally came across an identical pair of the iconic shoe, only in cleat form.
During training camp, the rookie wore a pair of Deion Sanders-inspired Vapor Edge Diamond Turf ’96 cleats painted teal to replace the white stripes on them. On another occasion he wore a mock pair of Supreme elephant print dunks, replacing the typical red base color for teal.
Customizing cleats isn’t a new fad that’s swept the league.Wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.was one of the first players to popularize them when he played for the New York Giants. He used to put on vibrant combinations of cleats to pair with his colorful personality. Since then, players — Jaguars included — have rocked different styles on their feet during the game. Some players go for more modest styles, replicating shoes and turning them into cleat form.

Jaguars vs Patriots predictions
Dan Rorabaugh
Demetrius Harvey, Florida Times-Union: Jaguars 20, Patriots 10
"Pederson said the first to score 20 in this one likely wins and I can't say I disagree. The Patriots are in no shape to perform early into their rebuild. The Jaguars are probably the most desperate team in the league. They'll be up for this game more than they were last week against Chicago. At least that's what they hope."
Gene Frenette, Florida Times-Union: Jaguars 24, Patriots 20
"This might be the last game the Jaguars are favored until facing the Tennessee Titans twice in December, and even that might be a push. Given the daunting schedule in the next four weeks before the bye, they better get this one. Can they be trusted to not show any quit this week? Maybe."
Vinnie Iyer, Sporting News: Patriots 27, Jaguars 24
"The Patriots have renewed confidence with Drake Maye at quarterback, unlocking their key passing weapons at just the right time before seeing Jacksonville's putrid pass defense in London. The Jaguars have been in an absolute fog in coverage all over the field. Whether they use Trevor Lawrence or Maye's first-round QB predecessor Mac Jones, the Jaguars will lose a high-scoring affair that might be the real last game for Doug Pederson."
Tyler Dragon, USA TODAY: Jaguars 21, Patriots 17
"Trevor Lawrence is 1-10 in his last 11 starts. Jags head coach Doug Pederson is getting a lot of heat, but Lawrence hasn’t played winning football. Luckily for Jacksonville, they get to face a Patriots team that might just be the worst club in the AFC. The Jaguars end their London trip with a win."
